James Matteson
Mr. James Matteson, 88, of Ellicottville, New York, formerly of Killbuck and Mansfield, New York died Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016 at The Absolut of Salamanca, New York.
Born September 29, 1927 in Red House, New York, he was the son of the late James and Viola Sheffield Matteson. He was married by Rev. Russell Clarke on November 25, 1949 to the former Ruth Bowley, who survives.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Supply Clerk with the 2nd Signal Company. He was awarded the Victory Medal.
Mr. Matteson was employed as a Lead Fabricator for US Plywood in Cattaraugus, New York, prior to his retirement.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes and was an avid NASCAR and football fan.
Surviving besides his wife are: two daughters, Julie (Clair) Kyler, Great Valley, NY, Marilyn (Frank) Hughes, Little Valley, NY; seven grandchildren, Heather Rockwell, NC, Jaelyn Rockwell, Timothy Rockwell, Darin (Carrie) Fidurko, Nicholas (Kim) Hughes, all of Salamanca, NY, Raymond (Michelle) Hughes, Samantha Hughes, both of Little Valley, NY; five great-grandchildren, Brooke Smith, NC, Ireland Fidurko, Logan Fidurko, Carter Hughes, Cole Hughes, all of Salamanca, NY; a great-great-grandson, Dominic, Little Valley, NY; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Allen Davis and Merton Matteson.
There will be no visitation or funeral services.
