James Peters
Mr. James Peters, 82, of Salamanca, New York died Sunday, April 6, 2014 at his home following a lengthy illness.
Born February 11, 1932 in Salamanca, New York, he was the son of the late Ralph and Emma Nies Peters. He was married on October 26, 1968 in the Congregational Church to the former Elizabeth Bliesath, who predeceased him.
Mr. Peters was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the 65th Infantry Badge.
He was employed as a Technician for the former New York Telephone Company in Salamanca, New York for 35 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the former BPO Elks Lodge #1025.
Surviving are: a step daughter, Linda Haas, Salamanca, NY; a step son, William (Laura) Lewis, East Amherst, NY; 3 granddaughters, Susan (Christopher) Magara, Randolph, NY, Megan (Mark) Coulson, FL, and Caitlin Lewis, East Amherst, NY; a grandson, W. Burt Lewis, CA; a dedicated grandson, George Haas, Jr., Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews, including Wendy (Peter) Peters-Smith, Olean, NY.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Wayne Peters, Donald Peters, and 2 sisters, Jeannette Redeye and E. Adell Peters.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held in the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Michael Lonto, pastor of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
