Jean Wass

Mrs. Jean Wass, 84, of Salamanca, New York died surrounded by her family, early Friday morning, February 27, 2015 at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York following a long illness.

Born May 15, 1930 in Salamanca, New York, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eva Wilson Mighells. She was married on October 1, 1949 to Mr. John Wass, who survives.

She was a graduate of the Salamanca High School Class of 1948 and the former St. Francis Hospital Nursing Program.

Mrs. Wass had been employed at the former Dudley Hotel, former Edlee Restaurant and was a nurse at the Allegany Nursing Home, Cattaraugus County Nursing Home, Machias, NY and the Salamanca Nursing Home.

She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed gardening and Pinochle.

Surviving besides her husband are: three daughters, Judy (Jack) Hill, Salamanca, NY, Wendy Boon, Salamanca, NY, Margaret “Stretch” (Robert) Winney, Marshallville, OH; one son, John (Dawn) Wass, Saugus ,MA; 13 grandchildren; 17great-grandchildren; one brother John (Pat) Mighells, Salamanca, NY, one sister Margaret O’Brien, Salamanca, NY several nieces and nephews

She was predeceased by a son, Raymond Wass, a granddaughter Chrissy Hill, a great-granddaughter Leah Goins, a sister, Betty Talbot, and a brother Charles Mighells.

There will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc, Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York is in charge of funeral arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association.
