Joan E. Sampson

Joan E. Sampson, 78, of Salamanca, NY died Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Salamanca Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of Salamanca following a long illness.

Born March 20, 1945 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Delores Oyer Rettberg.

She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1965.

Joan had been employed as a nurse’s aide at the former Salamanca Nursing Home, at Burger King in Salamanca, and the former St. Francis Hospital in Olean.

She was a member of Our Lady of Peace and the Alter and Rosary Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, crocheting, and knitting.

Surviving are: a daughter, Marie (DJ) Moore, Olean, NY; a grandson, Dominic Moore, Olean, NY; three sisters, Diane (Karl) Pecora, Gretchen (Michael) Anderson, Mary (Mark) Beyth, all of Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Harold Sampson.

There will be no visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 274 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Mancuso as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Our Lady of Peace Parish.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
