John Harrington

John Harrington, 83, of Great Valley, New York died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York, following a short illness.

Born July 11, 1931 in Mansfield, New York, he was the son of the late Michael and Isabelle Chapman Harrington. He was married on December 30, 1950 to the former Shirley Hook, who survives.

He had been employed with the National Fuel Corporation in Salamanca, New York, retiring after thirty-five years as a foreman. He also operated a dairy farm in Great Valley, New York.

Surviving besides his wife are: 2 sons, Michael (Sue) Harrington, Great Valley, NY, Jack (Pam) Harrington, Great Valley, NY; 1 daughter, Lynda (Don) Button, Great Valley, NY; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Agatha (Art) Storey, Little Valley, NY, Marjorie (Bob) Mott, Freemont, CA; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, David Harrington.

Private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Great Valley Ambulance Fund.
