John Mongillo
John J. Mongillo, age 52 of 75 Monroe Street, Salamanca, New York died Friday (July 31, 2009) unexpectedly at his home.
Born February 6, 1957 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late John Mongillo and the late Gloria DePascale Mongillo. He was married on July 3, 1998 to the former Deborah Nye who survives.
Mr. Mongillo co-owned, with his brother Mark, Mongillo’s Jewelry Store in Salamanca, New York, where he a was Master Goldsmith/Jewelry Diamondologist.
He was a past Fire Chief with the Allegany Indian Reservation Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs. He played bass guitar and was a vocalist with the band Tarkus and played with several other local bands. In addition, he was a certified scuba diver, enjoyed cooking, loved his pets and spending time in the company of his family and friends.
Surviving besides his wife are: one son, John Paul Mongillo of Salamanca, NY, 2 sisters, Carol (Timothy) Anderson of Salamanca, NY, twin sister Mary (Joseph) MacQueen of Onoville, NY, one brother, Mark Mongillo of 85 Main Street, Salamanca, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York, on Monday, August 3, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.M. in Our Lady of Peace (St. Patrick’s Worship site) with Fr. Joseph Porpiglia, pastor of St. Benedicts, Amherst, New York as celebrant.
