John R. Mighells
John R. Mighells, 88, of Salamanca, NY, died Friday, July 19, 2024 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.
Born January 3, 1936 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Charles and Eva Wilson Mighells. He was married at the former Peoples’ United Methodist Church in 1961 to the former Patricia Morgan, who predeceased him in 2017.
He was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1954.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany.
John had been employed as a plumber with the UA Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 22, Buffalo, NY for over 45 years.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296 and a former member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, fishing and boating. He also loved to cook.
Surviving are: two daughters, Sandi Mighells, Salamanca, NY, Shelly (Roger) Costello, Randolph, NY; two sons, Rodney Mighells, Brad Mighells, both of Salamanca, NY; four granddaughters, Renee Mighells, Kristin Fuller, Jessica Mighells, Pattie Mighells, all of Salamanca, NY; three grandsons, Ryan Mighells, James Fuller, Preston Spry, all of Salamanca, NY; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Betty Talbot, Jean Wass, Margaret O’Brien, and a brother, Charles Mighells.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 11am – 12pm, at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Michael Lonto officiating.
Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.
