Josephine M. Plonka

Mrs. Josephine M. Plonka, age 84, of 639 Wildwood Avenue, Salamanca, New York died Sunday February 3, 2008 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.

Born on February 2, 1924 in Salamanca, New York she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Antoinette Tomasik Wcislo. She was married on November 27, 1947 in Holy Cross Church to Mr. John S. Plonka who predeceased her on September 9, 1974.

She was retired from the former Simmons Cable Co. in Salamanca, New York. She had also owned and operated Jo's Ceramic's out of her home on Wildwood Avenue.

Mrs. Plonka was a member of Holy Cross Church, Holy Cross Rosary Society, Star of Liberty Lodge # 476, St. Joseph's Society #916 and she had been a Girl Scout Leader. After her retirement she continued to volunteer for VISTA and the center for Family Unity.

Surviving are: 2 sons, Mr. John A. Plonka, Little Valley, New York, Mr. Daniel (Stephen Wegman) Plonka, Rochester, New York; 2 daughters, Mrs. Carol Paprocki, Phoenix, Arizona, Mary (Gary Abraham) Plonka, Allegany, New York; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Plonka, Little Valley, New York, Renee Paprocki, Phoenix, Arizona, Lee Hyson, Thailand, Katie Hyson, Salamanca, New York; 3 sisters Helen Jodash, West Avenue, Salamanca, New York, Mrs. Charlotte Gross, La Belle, Flordia, Mrs. Theresa Missert, Pawley's Island, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 2 sisters Mary Satori, Frances Hannon and a brother, William Wcislo.

There will be no visitation.

A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church (Holy Cross Church) on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Piotr Zaczynski as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
