Judith C. Furlong

Judith C. Furlong, 84, of Salamanca, NY, died Friday, May 1, 2026 at Olean General Hospital following long illness.

Born January 29, 1942 in Hornell, NY, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Elizabeth Eastman Schaefer. She was married on July 28, 1962, in the former St. Patrick’s RC Church to Peter L. Furlong, who survives.

She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1960.

She was employed as an Assistant Jury Commissioner for Cattaraugus County for over 20 years, retiring in 1998. She served on the Salamanca School Board for over ten years and also served in various positions of the Salamanca High School All Sports Boosters. She was a long-time supporter of the South Side Sabers Booster. She chaperoned Salamanca Winter Guard and Marching Band. She also served on the Smith Lake Shore Homeowner’s Association in Ocala, FL, where she also worked security and served on their breakfast club.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending both her children’s, and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, gaming, and learned to golf after her retirement, taking them to Florida. She will be remembered for watching old westerns.

Surviving besides her husband are: a daughter, Patti Furlong-Crowe, Salamanca, NY; two sons, Paul (Kersten) Furlong, Salamanca, NY., Mike (Julie) Furlong, Honeybrook, PA; three granddaughters, Megan (Tyler) Anthony, Honeybrook, PA, Katie Furlong, Allegany, NY, and Karrah Furlong, Salamanca, NY; five grandsons, Tyler Carr, Fairmont, WV, Shawn (Danielle Corbett) Furlong, Honeybrook, PA, Eric Furlong, Allegany, NY, Keegan Hardy and Kasen Hardy, both of Salamanca, NY; two great-grandson’s, Asher Anthony and Greyson Anthony, both of Honeybrook, PA; one sister, Jane Hohman, GA, one brother, David (Theresa) Schaefer, Bellevue, FL.

She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Katherine Furlong; two sisters, Mary Jo Delong, Deanna Schaefer; an aunt, Velma Lockhart, and uncle Jim Lockhart.

Friends may call on the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home on Friday, May 15th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, May 16th at 1:30pm with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salamanca All Sports Booster Club.

Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River St. Salamanca, NY.
