Julia A. Sartori

Julia A. Sartori, age 95, of 24 Academy Street, Salamanca, New York, passed away Friday evening, June 7, 2013 at the Absolut of Salamanca following a brief illness.

Born July 19, 1917 in Salamanca, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Katherine Biscup Okneski. She was married on January 20, 1942 to Holy Cross Church to Mr. John L. Sartori, who predeceased her on September 11, 1985.

Julia graduated from Salamanca High School Class of 1936. She then attended the Marzecha Dressmaking and Design School in Buffalo, NY. During World War II, she was employed as a telegraph operator with the Erie Railroad. She was also employed as a seamstress at the Fitzgerald's Department Store in Salamanca.

Mrs. Sartori was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, the Holy Cross Rosary Society, and the Polish Women's Alliance of America. She was proud of her Polish heritage and was fluent in the language. She enjoyed sewing, reading, baking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are: 1 daughter, Kathleen (Frederick) Murphy, Salamanca, NY; 2 sons, John Sartori, Seattle, WA, Mark (Beth) Sartori, Matthews, NC; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Sartori, and a brother, Robert Okneski. There will be no visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 10:00 am, with Father Patrick Melfi Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salamanca Public Library or to the donor's choice.
