Karen VanBuren

Karen A. VanBuren, age 70, of School Street, Salamanca, NY, died Friday evening , September 17, 2010, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, following a long illness.

Born on September 6, 1940, in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late J. Howard and Genevieve Rhodes VanBuren.

Ms. VanBuren was a graduate of Salamanca High School. She was employed with the City of Salamanca School District with the custodial staff for over 20 years, retiring in 2007.

She enjoyed spending time with friends, her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are: one daughter, Debra (Kris) Johnston, of Iron Mountain, Mich.; two sisters, Pat (Dan) Moore, Salamanca, NY, Sharon Story, Akron, OH; three brothers, Monte (Marcia) VanBuren, Salamanca, NY, Terry VanBuren, Salamanca, NY, John "Bunk" (Dorothy) VanBuren, Warrenton, NC; three grandchildren of Iron Mountain, Mich., several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by: two sisters, Joan Passmore and Joyce Shubert; two brothers, James VanBuren and William VanBuren.

Family and friends may be received at the family home, 77 School Street, Salamanca, New York on Friday, September 24, 2010 from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
