Katherine Matheny
Katherine L. Matheny, age 64, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died Sunday, July 11, 2010 from a complication of a routine operation.
Born February 13, 1946, in Olean, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Natalie Jachacz Lewis. She was married in 1968 to Mr. Ralph Matheny, who survives.
Katherine was a graduate Fairview Park High School, Ohio. She then earned a BA in Psychology from Marietta College. She completed her education with a Master’s degree in Education from Miami University of Ohio and a MBA at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
She taught elementary school in Washington County, Ohio for 5 years. She followed her political aspirations to work on several gubernatorial, senator and mayoral campaigns in Ohio. Katherine served as a Clintonville Area Commissioner in the 1980’s in Columbus, Ohio.
Katherine was an executive for AT&T in Columbus, Ohio which led her to opportunities in New Jersey and then onto Florida where she resided until her death. After her career with AT& T ended, she became a Vice President for Client Relations for MMOGolf.com which specializes in Masters’ Golf tournament merchandise.
She truly enjoyed life and people. She was very warm and would do anything for anyone. She loved animals especially her cats. In memoriam, Felix, Topaz, Bizet and survived by Sasha. She will be missed by her family and friends and leaves a huge hole in the lives of many.
Surviving besides her husband are: a daughter, Maria Kay Matheny, Austin, Texas; a son, Kenley Matheny, St. Petersburg, Florida.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services will be held on August 14, 2010 at a time to be announced in the family plot in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville, New York.
