Keith L. Reed Sr.

Mr. Keith L. Reed, 90, formerly of Adams Street, Salamanca, NY died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg, PA.

Born September 27, 1927 in Meadville, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. Glenn and Ethel Hopkins Reed. He was married on October 6, 1949 to the former Shirley M. Spink, who predeceased him on January 23, 2017.

Mr. Reed was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II.

Along with his wife, he was the co-owner of the former Reed’s Newsroom, Reed’s Cab Service, and Wilbert Vault Company in Kill Buck. He served as Mayor for the City of Salamanca from 1962 – 1969 and 1972 – 1975.

Mr. Reed was a member of the United Congregational Methodist Church, Salamanca Kiwanis Club, American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535, the Masonic Temple, and was an original member of the West End Whittlers. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and joke-telling.

Surviving are: a son, Kevin (Heather) Reed, Kill Buck, NY; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosalyn Hoag, Salamanca, NY, Marilyn Standing, Melbourne, FL; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberlee Reed Riley, a son, Keith L. Reed Jr., three brothers, Lowell Reed, Wendell Reed, Robert “Pete” Reed.

There will be no visitation.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the United Congregational Methodist Church on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Michael Trenchard officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the United Congregational Methodist Church, 134 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY 14779.
