Kevin "Pops" Johnny-John

Kevin “Pops” Johnny-John, 64, of Salamanca, NY, died Friday, October 27, 2023 at the Salamanca Rehabilitation & Nursing Center following a long illness.

Born August 27, 1959 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Richard and Colleen Crowe Johnny-John.

Kevin was an enrolled member of the Onondaga Nation and of the Heron Clan.

He attended Salamanca High School and later received his GED.

Kevin had been employed as a teacher of the native language with the Seneca Nation for several years.

He enjoyed playing soft ball, cards, dice, and was an avid bowler in several area leagues. He was a faith keeper at the Coldspring Longhouse and also participated in singing and dancing in Powwows.

Surviving are: eight daughters, Melissa Block, Salamanca, NY, Yotz Johnny-John, Kill Buck, NY, Akyia Crowe, Nelly Dowdy, Carrie Dowdy, Hannah (Donnie) Martinez, Julie Johnny-John, Leah Thomas, all of Salamanca, NY; seven sons, Travis Schapp, Joshua (Kate) Johnny-John, Kyle Dowdy Jr., John (Autumn Crouse) Block, all of Salamanca, NY, Herbie John, Cattaraugus Reservation, Hilton Johnny-John, Salamanca, NY, Justin (Cassi) Cook, Tonawanda Reservation, five brothers, William “Bill” (Lynn George) Crouse, Salamanca, NY, Victor (Renae) Jimerson, Steamburg, NY, Virgil Crowe, Kerwin Dowdy, Ed (Nancy) Printup, all of Salamanca, NY; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and all his other kids who knew him as “Pops”.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Cecil “Zeke” Johnny-John, Lyford Johnny-John, Michael Johnny-John, a sister, Rosaphine Road, and infant twin sisters, Julie and Marie.

Friends may call at Coldspring Longhouse beginning Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023 and continuing all day and through Monday.

Funeral services will be at Coldspring Longhouse on Tuesday at 10am with members of the Coldspring Longhouse officiating.

Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, NY.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
