Larry Sturdevant
Mr. Larry R Sturdevant, age 77, of Salamanca, New York died Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at his home following a short illness.
Born August 15, 1938 in Wellsville, New York, he was the son of the late Ross and Kathryn Reniff Sturdevant. He was married on December 6, 1969 in Salamanca to the former Pamela Schultz, who survives.
Mr. Sturdevant graduated from the New York State Ranger School in 1959 and attended the University of Montana. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving stateside during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was employed in the construction industry for over thirty years, retiring as a Grade Foreman for Union Local #621 in Olean, New York.
Larry Sturdevant was member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the American Legion Post #181 in Randolph, New York, Union Local #621, Olean, New York, and a member of the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1002.
Surviving besides his wife are: 3 sons, Tim (Renate) Sturdevant, Cincinnati, OH, Tom (Melanie) Sturdevant, Limestone, NY, Tyler Sturdevant, Salamanca, NY; 9 grandchildren, Franziska Sturdevant, Cincinnati, OH, Paris Sturdevant, Salamanca, NY, Heidi Howe, Cuba, NY, Ryan Grant, Oak Harbor, WA, Katelynn Hartman, Limestone, NY, Kyle Hartman, Limestone, NY, Madison Hartman, Limestone, NY, Christine Schiefer, Los Angeles, CA, Alexander Shiefer, Cincinnati, OH; 2 great granddaughters, Avah Caputi, Ansley Caputi, both of Salamanca, NY: nieces and nephews, Deanna (Floyd) Scharf, Westfield, NY, Ronald (Patty) Sturdevant, Wellsville, NY, Dorraine Allen, OH, Dawn Sturdevant, OH, Dennis Sturdevant, Scio, NY, Michael (Terra) LaCroix, Allegany, NY, Daniel (Lindsay) LaCroix, Great Valley, NY, Kristin McGonnell, Salamanca, NY, Mark (Jenifer) Schultz, Arcade, NY.
Friends may call for memorial visitation at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Friday evening from 7 – 9 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in United Congregational Methodist Church, 134 Broad Street, Salamanca, New York with Rev. Michael Lonto, pastor of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to HomeCare and Hospice or the NYS Ranger School, 257 Ranger School Rd, Wanakena, NY 13695.
