Leonard Laieski

Mr. Leonard Laieski, 92, of Olean, NY, formerly of Salamanca, NY died Saturday morning, November 4, 2017 at Cuba Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

Born August 1, 1925 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Balecia Laieski.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II as a Seabee.

Mr. Laieski was employed with Acme Electric for over 30 years prior to his retirement.

He was a member of St. Mary’s, attended Our Lady of Peace Parish, and was a member of the Burger King Coffee Club in Olean. He was an avid accordion player and played with the Jamestown Musician’s Association and was a member of the Pulaski Club in Olean. He loved pets and children and enjoyed riding his bicycle all over the local area.

Surviving are: a sister, Barbara (David) Dry, Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews; and his loving companion, Ruth James, Olean, NY.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Esther Dolecki, Marguerite Shonitsky, Dolores McCartney and two nieces, Debra Reed and Diane Whipple.

Friends may call at the Casey, Halwig, & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 Route 417, Olean, NY on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 12 – 1:30 p.m., at which time a prayer service will be held, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. at St. Mary of the Angels Church with Rev. David Tourville, pastor, as celebrant.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Disabled Veterans of America, 130 S. Elmwood Ave, Suite 620, Buffalo, NY 14202, SPCA, 2944 Route 16, Olean, NY 14760, or the donor’s choice.
