Loretta M. Phillips

Loretta M. Phillips, 95, of Salamanca, NY, peacefully passed away Sunday, April 8, 2024 at home surrounded by family.

Born August 29, 1928 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Catherine Simsick Matusik. She was married on August 19, 1950 at Holy Cross Church to Owen K. Phillips. They were married forty-eight years before his passing in 1998.

She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1946.

After high school, Loretta had been employed with Shelby Woolin Mill, Salamanca, NY for some time before leaving to care for her mother at home.

She was a dedicated, life-long member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. Loretta was a quiet, strong-willed, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed reading, watching QVC, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Surviving are: a daughter, Lori (Douglas) Paschen, Salamanca, NY; two grandchildren, Todd (Brianne) Paschen, Mount Pleasant, SC, Amy (Jason) Wass, Salamanca, NY; two great-grandchildren, Kynleigh M. Wass, Owen K. Wass, both of Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Sophia Capozzi, Christine Gibbons, and Dorothy Dieter, and three brothers, Joseph Matusik, Alexander Matusik, and Stanley Matusik.

There will be no visitation.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 274 Broad Street, Salamanca, NY 14779 on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11am with Rev. Charles Johnson officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, then family suggests memorials be sent to HomeCare & Hospice, 115 East Main Street, Allegany, NY 14706.
