Loyal R. Provorse Sr
Loyal R. "Shorty" Provorse Sr., age 88, of Route 98, Great Valley, New York died early Saturday morning, March 12, 2016 following a sudden illness.
Born May 8, 1927 in Franklinville, New York, he was the son of the late Chester and Cora Coolidge Provorse. He was married September 30, 1946 in Franklinville, New York to the former Margaret Miller, who predeceased him in 2009.
Mr. Provorse was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
He had been employed in the construction industry all his life, working for JD Northrup Construction Inc. in Ellicottville, Krause Construction in Great Valley, and Portal Construction in Elma, New York.
Mr. Provorse was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ellicottville and was a life member of the American Legion Post #659 in Ellicottville.
He was a loving father who enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be remembered riding his lawnmower and taking care of his home and yard. He loved the summer outdoor family parties and keeping the neighborhood informed.
Surviving are: two daughters, Sandra Conaway, Salamanca, NY, Susan (Bill) Rickert, Little Valley, NY; three sons, Donald “Porky” (Debbie) Provorse, Great Valley, NY, Loyal “Peewee” (Peggy) Provorse Jr., Salamanca, NY, Bryant (Becky) Green, Allegany, NY; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Roy (Pat) Provorse, MS.
He was predeceased by a son, Thomas Provorse, and a brother, Robert Provorse.
Memorial visitation will be held at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 9 – 11 a.m., at which time memorial services will be held with Rev. Dan Buringrud, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ellicottville, officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Post #659.
Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Shriners Club, 2900 Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607, an organization that Loyal helped for many years.
