Marian L. Pennell
Mrs. Marian L. Pennell, age 93, of Salamanca, New York died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.
Born March 13, 1923 in Salamanca, New York, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Verna Harold Chamberlain. She was married on September 10, 1941 to Mr. David Pennell, who predeceased her in 2015.
She was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1941.
She had been employed as a retail sales clerk for JC Penny in Lakewood, New York for over fifteen years retiring in 1985. Previously, she worked for twelve years at the former Loblaw’s in Salamanca.
Mrs. Pennell attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and had volunteered at the former Salamanca District Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She was an avid gardener and could grow anything.
Surviving are: two sons, Roger Pennell, Baja, Mexico, Larry Pennell, Blasdell, NY; a daughter, Linda (Jim) Taylor, Bensalem, PA; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Pennell, Clarence, N.Y.;three grandchildren, Bethany, Michael, Paul; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Troy, DeAnna; a sister, Marjorie Allen, Clarence, NY; a sister-in-law, Virginia Ward, Great Valley, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Paul Pennell, a grandson, James Pennell, two sisters, Shirley Pollock, Winifred Hill, and a brother, George Chamberlain.
Memorial visitation will be held at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Saturday morning, August 13, 2016 from 10 - 11 am followed by a memorial service at 11 am with Rev. Michael Lonto, pastor of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 99 Wildwood Avenue, Salamanca, NY 14779.
