Marlene L. Dowdy
Marlene Dowdy, 84, of Steamburg, NY died Monday evening, July 29, 2024 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.
Born May 22, 1940 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Genevieve Snow Crouse.
She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, the Turtle Clan, and was a Head Faith Keeper at the Coldspring Longhouse.
Marlene had been employed with the Seneca Nation of Indians in the payroll department for over 20 years and had previously been employed in the Allegany State Park Restaurant.
She enjoyed the outdoors, walking, and playing Bingo.
Surviving are: two daughters, Kristine Dowdy, Salamanca, NY, Kelly (Christopher) Bomberry, Kill Buck, NY; two sons, Kory Dowdy, Steamburg, NY, Kerwin Dowdy, Salamanca, NY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Martin Crouse Sr., Jimersontown, NY; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Jacobs, a son, Kyle Dowdy Sr., and two brothers, Merlin Redeye, and LaVern Redeye.
Friends may call at the Coldspring Longhouse beginning Wednesday, July 31, 2024 afternoon and continuing through Thursday.
Funeral services will be held in the Coldspring Longhouse on Friday at 9a.m. with Speakers of the Longhouse officiating.
Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, NY.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
