Mary Sweeney

Mrs. Mary F. Sweeney, age 91, formerly of Cleveland Avenue, Salamanca, New York died peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Louisburg Nursing Center, Louisburg, NC.

Born on September 4, 1924 in Salamanca, New York, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Concetta Rutolo Ferrara. She was married on June 25, 1949 in St. Patrick’s Church to Mr. Thomas M. Sweeney who predeceased her on October 4, 2007.

Mrs. Sweeney was employed with the Salamanca Public School System as an account clerk in the business office for over 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Church, the Altar & Rosary Society, Newman Reading Circle, and a former member of the Elkdale Country Club.

Surviving are: 1 son, Michael (Susan) Sweeney, Apex, NC; 1 grandson, Ryan (Brittany) Sweeney, Durham, NC; 1 brother, Al Ferrara, Burlington, NJ; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Ferrara.

By her wishes, there will be no visitation.

A memorial mass will be held in Our Lady of Peace Parish in Salamanca, NY on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Salamanca Public Library, Salamanca, NY or Wheels4Hope, Raleigh, NC.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.
