Maxine Black

Mrs. Maxine E. Black, age 70 , of Jimersontown, New York died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Bradford Manor, Bradford, Pa. following a brief illness.

Born on January 8, 1940 in Salamanca, New York she was the daughter of the late Philip and Lucinda Jones Barnes. She was married in Red House, New York on April 12, 1958 to Rev. Wilbur Black who predeceased her on June 7, 1990.

Mrs. Black was the Surrogate Judge for the Seneca nation of Indians, Appellate Court Judge for the Seneca Nation of Indians. Previously, she had been employed at the Salamanca School District as a teacher’s aide and in the food service department.

She was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, the Hawk Clan, a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, past chairperson for the Cancer Crusade on the Allegany Terrritory.

Surviving are: 1 son, Clair (Nancy) Black, Jimersontown,New York; 1 daughter, Mrs. Derah (Kenneth) Day, Great Valley, New York; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Mr. Clifton (Sherida Ann) Barnes, Phoenix, Arizona; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, New York. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
