Melvin L. John
Melvin L. John, 86, of Salamanca, NY, died Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.
Born August 24, 1938 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Melvin John Sr. and Gladys Titus John Jimerson.
He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and of the Heron Clan.
Melvin was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1946.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Melvin had been employed in the construction industry, working in New York City, Denver, CO, and the San Francisco, CA area. He had also been employed as a truck driver in Colorado.
He enjoyed spending time at family events, being with friends, and listening to music. One of his favorite hobbies was bargain hunting.
Surviving are: a daughter, Denise L. Bennett, Irving, NY; three sons, Kevin Niedermeier, CA, Denver John, Melvin “Cody” John III, both of WY; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rae Eddy, Lois Lichy, Holly Jimerson, all of Salamanca, NY, Vicki Jimerson, Selina, OH; two brothers, Dan Jimerson, Louis Jimerson Jr., both of Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Wheaton and Marlene John, and two brothers, Lloyd John and an infant brother, Donald John.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9pm.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 am with Rev. Marvin Abrams officiating.
Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery.
