Michael T. Shongo
Michael T. Shongo, 70, of Salamanca, NY died Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at home following a long illness.
Born May 22, 1951 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Russell and Yvonne “Bonnie” Smith Shongo.
Mike’s family lived in Red House and he attended Randolph Central School in his elementary years. The family moved to Jimersontown and he finished high school at Salamanca High School, graduating in 1969.
After school, he began working with the Cattaraugus County Department of Public Works as a laborer, truck driver, snowplow driver, and seasonal dispatcher. He retired from the county in May 2005 after 36 years. During his earlier years, Mike also worked a second job at Bush Industries in Little Valley for 7 years.
He was a former member of the Salamanca Chapter of Demolay. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, fishing, going to the casino, and crossword puzzles. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
Surviving are: two daughters, Lisa Green, Allegany, NY, Michelle (Michael) Corso, Clover, SC; three grandchildren, Madyson (Timothy) Ranlett, Austin, TX, Abigail Corso, Sammy Corso, both of Clover, SC; a sister, Joni Wyatt, Salamanca, NY; a niece, Angel Wyatt, Olean, NY; two nephews, Shawn Wyatt, Grimesland, NC and Lance Wyatt, Jamestown, NY.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family and will be announced.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River St, Salamanca, NY 14779.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
