Milton Spry

Mr. Milton "Babe" Spry, age 82, of Summit Street, Salamanca, Salamanca, NY died Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.

Born on July 7, 1929 in Great Valley, NY, he was the son of the late Francis and Beatrice Landon Spry. He was married on December 30, 1950 to the former Elaine Hook, who survives.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Spry was employed for 29 years at the Salamanca Board of Public Utilities, prior to his retirement. In his retirement years, he worked part-time at Elkdale Country Club, for 19 years. Prior to his military service, he had been employed at the former Erie Railroad and the B&O Railroad.

He was a member of Holy Cross Athletic Club, the Veterans of Foreign War John F. Ahrens Post #5296, and the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535. He was a well-known softball player, and loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife are 1 daughter, Susan (Gary) Wilder, Hamburg, NY; 2 sons, Mark (Laura) Spry, Salamanca, NY, and Dave (Shelly) Spry, Salamanca, NY; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, John (Bonnie) Spry, Limestone, NY and Thomas Spry, Florida; 1 sister, Sandy Spry, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Spry was preceded in death by 2 brothers, James Spry and Edward Spry; 2 sisters, Donna McCloud and Marilee Spry.

There will be no visitation.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, NY.
