Morris R. Abrams
Mr. Morris R. Abrams, 75, of Jimersontown, NY died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, November 6, 2018 at Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, NY.
Born February 16, 1943 in Coldspring, NY, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Elsie Logan Abrams.
He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, the Turtle clan, and the Coldspring Longhouse. He was a Councillor for the Seneca Nation of Indians for three terms from 1974 – 1980 and 2012 - 2016.
Mr. Abrams was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1961.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam.
Mr. Abrams had been employed as an Iron Worker with Iron Worker’s Local #6.
He played baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies for one season prior to entering the service. He was also inducted into the Western New York Softball Hall of Fame. He was a member of the American Legion Iroquois Post 1587 in Irving, NY. He had a passion for Snow Snake, teaching the traditions and passing it down to the next generations. He was an integral part of bringing the annual Snow Snake Tournament to Salamanca in 2015.
Surviving are: his wife, Linda Cathcart, Jimersontown, NY; two sons, Scott (Maurienne Jimerson) Abrams, Salamanca, NY, Morey Ground, Basom, NY; two daughters, Sherri Abrams, Melanie Abrams, both of Basom, NY; fourteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Theresa) Abrams, Salamanca, NY; two sisters, Corliss (Floyd) Bucktooth, Steamburg, NY, Marcia Abrams, Steamburg, NY; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, S. Michelle Abrams, a grandson, Morey Ground Jr., three brothers, Wayne Abrams, Cornelius Abrams Jr., Merel Abrams, and three sisters, Ramona Biscup, Elverna Gordon, and Gloria Crouse.
Friends may call at the Cold Spring Longhouse beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing all day Thursday.
Longhouse Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Steamburg, NY.
