Myrlte H. Blackmon

Mrs. Myrtle Blackmon, age 92, of Salamanca, NY died, Friday, December 7, 2018 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY following a short illness.

Born on October 31, 1926 in Salamanca, she was the daughter of the late Loren and Pearl Luce Field. On December 15, 1944, she married Edward Blackmon, who predeceased her in 2009.

Mrs. Blackmon attended school in Bucktooth Run and graduated from Salamanca High School in 1944.

She was a housewife and mother. Later she worked at the former Salamanca Penny Saver. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Olean, NY, Great Valley Senior Citizens, Kill Buck Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a volunteer at the former Salamanca Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels, and was a 4-H Leader.

Mrs. Blackmon loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a very caring and loving woman to many. She loved animals, especially cats. She enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and needlepoint. She loved the Lord and reading the Bible.

Surviving are: two daughters, Darlene Blackmon, Salamanca, NY, Marcy (Robert) Winship, Great Valley, NY; a son, Lawrence (Peggy) Blackmon, Decatur, TN; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dana (Karen) Field, Zephyr Hills, FL; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Irene Hutchinson, Margaret Blackmon, and Rhonda Field, a brother, Maurice Field, and an infant son, Randall Blackmon.

In honoring Mrs. Blackmon’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later time for family and friends.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Friends of Strays, 17 Oakland Avenue, Salamanca, NY 14779.
