Nea Corey
Mrs. Nea Corey, age 101, formerly of Wildwood Avenue, Salamanca, NY died early Tuesday morning, March 7, 2017 at The Absolut of Salamanca.
Born October 1, 1915 in Salamanca, New York, she was the daughter of the late Sydney and Estelle Palmer Smith. She was married on December 14, 1941 to Mr. Gleason Corey, who predeceased her on June 20, 1990.
Mrs. Corey was a graduate of Salamanca High School and Westchester, New York School of Nursing.
She started private duty nursing in Westchester Co., was a registered nurse at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, New York, where she started the blood bank that was the second in the nation. After moving back to Salamanca in 1946, she worked as a private duty nurse and worked for Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services from 1964 to 1977 when she retired.
Mrs. Corey was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, the Guild of St. Ann, and the church choir. She was an avid bridge player. She was a life master, director, and teacher.
Surviving are: 6 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Donna) Zariczny, David (Brenda) Zariczny, Sarah (Chris) Gallo, Seth Wells, Carrie (Shane) Allen, Scott Corey; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Harris, a son, Scott Corey, 4 brothers, Julian Smith, Sydney Smith, T. Lea Smith, Palmer Smith and a sister, Phyllis Oyer.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 10 – 11 a.m., at which time funeral services will be held with Rob Klouw, of the First Presbyterian Church of Bradford, officiating.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
