Ned E. McMillen

Ned E. McMillen, 88, of Salamanca, New York died Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, New York.

Born February 27, 1928 in Albion, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Perry and Lola Niel McMillen. He was married on September 12, 1949 in La Jose, Pennsylvania to the former Anna Mae Wolfe, who survives.

He had been employed as an Engineer and Fireman for the former B&O Railroad, later the Chessie System and CSX, for 35 years prior to his retirement. He had also worked for 50 years as an auxiliary Policeman for the City of Salamanca.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ellicottville, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, where he had served as past Vice President, the Kill Buck Volunteer Fire Department, the Cattaraugus County Fire Police, where he had served as Chaplain, and was a charter member of the Salamanca Square Dance Club. He was a former Boy Scout leader. He volunteered for Nomad and Habitat for Humanity, travelling throughout the United States and Panama, following hurricanes and other natural disasters. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Surviving beside his wife are: three sons, Ivan R. (Susan) McMillen, North Tonawanda, NY, Kevin N. (Jane) McMillen, Salamanca, NY, Vern (Deborah) McMillen, Little Valley, NY; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Boza McMillen, Beckville, TX; nine grandchildren, Adam (Donna) McMillen, Shreveport, LA, Daniel (Kris) McMillen, Henderson, TX, Jacob McMillen, Portland, OR, Beth McMillen, Honduras, Andrew McMillen, Hilton Head, SC, Michael McMillen, Rebecca McMillen, both of Salamanca, NY, Kaitlin (Bryan) Wilson, Alysia (Jeffrey) Durow, both of Randolph, NY; three great-grandchildren, Cason McMillen, Henderson, TX, Aiden Wilson, Austin Durow, both of Randolph, NY; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Byron Lee McMillen, a granddaughter, Kristen McMillen, and two brothers, Earl McMillen and Max McMillen.

Friends may attend a memorial visitation on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Buringrud officiating.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ellicottville, New York.
