Palmer Smith
Palmer K. Smith, age 94, formerly of Wildwood Avenue, Salamanca, New York, died Tuesday morning, June 28, 2011, at the Absolut of Salamanca, Salamanca, New York.
Born September 29, 1916 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Sydney and Estella Palmer Smith. He was married on September 19, 1939 in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church to the former Helena Vreeland who predeceased him on August 29, 2000. He married the former Lillian Whipple Stratton on June 24, 2001, who predeceased him on June 11, 2008.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Alfred Technical Institute Class of 1947.
He retired in 1978 from Sears & Roebuck Co. Previously, he had operated his own Appliance Service Business and the Allways Kendall Gasoline Station.
Mr. Smith was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, he was a former Vestryman, a Warden, Superintendent of the Sunday School Program, an Acolyte, Boy Scout Leader, Boy Scout Explorer Advisor, Echo Program, and a Salamanca Nursing Home volunteer.
Surviving are: 1 son, Raymond (Margaret Rockefeller) Smith, Penn Yan, New York; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a step son, Michael Stratton; a sister, Nea Corey, of Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Sydney Smith, Thomas Lea Smith, one sister, Phyllis Oyer.
There will be no visitation.
A graveside memorial service will be held in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York, at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
