Paul Formica
Paul D. Formica, age 73, of Lake Alfred, Florida, and of Ellicott Street, Salamanca, New York died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven, Florida.
Born on May 12, 1935 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Robert Pecora & Josephine Pinieri Formica Pecora. He was married on November 6, 1970 to the former Sandra Morrison who survives.
Mr. Formica was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving for 14 years from 1953 – 1967.
He was a Salamanca Police Officer and was the Manager of the former U.S. Cable in Salamanca, New York.
Mr. Formica was the Director of Civil Defense for 27 years for the City of Salamanca. He was in charge of the Salamanca Police Auxiliary.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1023, Winterhaven, Florida, American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, former member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296, the Salamanca Lions Club. He was one of the original founders of the Salamanca Positive Action which started the Falling Leaves Festival, former president of the Lake Mariana Acres Association, Lake Alfred, Florida. He served as Ward 4 Councilman for the City of Salamanca and was a special deputy for Cattaraugus County Sheriffs Department.
Surviving besides his wife are: a son, Paul (Cathy) Formica, Norwalk, California; 2 daughters, Paula Scanlin, Dana Point, California, Patricia (Myron) Bissen, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 2 step sons, Dale (Mary Beth) Colton, Bucktooth Run, Little Valley, New York, Michael (Kimberly) Colton, Fairport, New York; many grandchildren; 2 brothers, Richard (Eleanor) Formica, Monroe Township, New Jersey, Robert Formica, Las Vegas, Nevada; 2 sisters, Diana (Mike) Candal, Las Vegas, Nevada, Theresa King, Salamanca, New York; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a step son, Gregory Colton, 2 sisters, Rosemarie Bowen and Joan Formica.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York with Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish, officiating.
Full Military honors will be done by the American Legion Hughes skiba Post #535 and Veterans of Foreign War post #5296.
The famil suggests memorials to the Salamanca Public Library.
