Paul Janowicz

Mr. Paul W. Janowicz, age 83, of Peth Road, Great Valley, NY died Friday Evening at the Absolute of Salamanca, following a long illness.

Born on September 15, 1925 in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Boza) Janowicz.

Mr. Janowicz was married January 22, 1955 in Holy Cross Church in Salamanca, New York to the former Mary Kryniski Bzdak, who survives.

Mr. Janowicz was a Veteran of the World War II, serving with the US Army in the 75th Infantry; seeing combat in Ardennes France, Cental Europe, Rhineland and fought in the of Bulge. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and Citation Certificate from the Counsulate General for his part in the Liberation of France.

He was employed with the former Conrail Corp as a carman for over 45 years retiring in 1986. He had also worked at the former Clark Bros. in Olean, New York.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace (Holy Cross Church), a lifetime member of the Holy Cross Athletic Club, a 63 year member of the Hughes-Skiba #535 American Legion, AARP, and a member of the Transportation Worker's Association. He also served on the Great Valley Planning Board for over 15 years.

Surviving besides his wife are 2 daughters, Carolyn Hanson, Wellsville, NY Elizabeth (Paul) Hanson, Olean, NY; 1 sister, Lillian (Henry) Stebick, Olean, NY; 2 grandchildren, Eric (Angela) Hanson and Krista (Timothy) Insley, both of Webster, NY; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 1 sister Lt. Col. Dorothy Hollis and son-in-law, William R. Hanson.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Monday, from 2 -4 & 7 -9 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace Church (Holy Cross) on Tuesday morning at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Piotr Zaczynski officiating.

Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

Full Military honors will be held by members of American Legion / VFW.
