Richard John Meissner
Mr. Richard John Meissner, age 60, passed away Friday evening, November 7, 2008 at his home in the Town of Humphrey, New York.
Born in Salamanca, New York he was the son of the late Paul & Claribel Beckwith Meissner. He was married in 1972 to the former Jane Spako who survives.
Mr. Meissner was a decorated United States Marine serving in Vietnam. Among the many awards he received the Purple Heart with three stars and the New York State Distinguished Service Medal.
He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Salamanca for thirty five years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Meissner was a member of the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post #535, the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296. He enjoyed his land, garden, and carrying his wife's library books.
Surviving besides his wife are: a daughter Molly (Marcus) Root, Brockton, Ma; a son, Robert Meissner, Kansas City, Mo.; 3 brothers, James (Carol) Meissner, Angola, New York, Paul (Joan) Meissner, Eldred, Pa., Chuck (Lisa) Meissner, New Port Richie, Fl.; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Meissner was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Ann Meissner and Barbara Meissner.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday at 12:00 P.M. noon at Our Lady of Peace Parish (St. Patrick's Chapel) with Rev. Jozef Dudzik.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
