Robert Askey

Mr. Robert Askey, 72, of 451 Broad Street, Salamanca, New York died Wednesday morning (December 24, 2008) at the Olean General Hospital. Olean New York.

Born on June 28, 1936 in Altoona, PA, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Hester G. Askey. He was married to the former Helen Lagle who predeceased him on December 14, 2004.

Mr. Askey was employed at Long's Dairy and The Red Barn, both of Altoona, PA., The Red Barn in Olean, New York, and he retired from Shell Oil where he worked in both Randolph and Allegany, New York.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching Dr. Charles Stanley

Surviving are: 1 daughter, Barbara "Penny" (Rick) Fogle, Altoona, PA.; 9 sons, Patrick (Tabitha Hoag) Askey, Great Valley, NY; Edward (Crystal) Sponeybarger, Killbuck, NY.; Randy (Lonnie) Sponeybarger, Salamanca, NY.; Robert Schmerback, William Schmerback, both of Altoona, PA.; William (Karen) Wood, Maryland; Gary Askey, James Askey, Eddie Askey, all of Altoona PA ; 23 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Elva Newmyer, Pittsburg, PA; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Tuesday from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM when funeral services will be held with the Rev. Donald Acker. pastor of the House of Prayer officiating,

Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Atoona, PA
