Robert E. Bargy

Robert Edward Bargy of Olean, NY, a lifelong resident of the Salamanca area, died early Wednesday morning, December 5, 2018 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.

Born January 22, 1932 in Kill Buck, NY, he was the son of the late Hiram and Leona Gibbons Bargy. He was married in Carson City, NV on May 24, 1967 to the former Wilma Rohr, who predeceased him.

Mr. Bargy was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 110th Infantry 28th Division during the Korean Conflict.

He had been employed as a Detective for the Kilgore Detective Agency in Heritage, PA and Doyle Security in Buffalo, NY prior to his retirement.

He attended the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Olean and was a former member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Mr. Bargy was also a former member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535.

Surviving are: three daughters, Patti (Steve) Snyder, Pearl River, LA, Ruth Bargy, Salamanca, NY, Cheryl (Richard) Meyers, Lakewood, NY, a special step-daughter, Sandy (Michael Bryant) White, Franklinville, NY; five sons, Richard (Deborah) Bargy, Salamanca, NY, Donald Bargy, Raleigh, NC, Larry (Catherine) Pendleton, Silver Springs, NV, James Pendleton, TX, Frank (Rebecca) Garrett, Salamanca, NY; three step-daughters, Lharmony Vittaco, Kalypall Kiu, Vanneary Lamouth, all of Cambodia; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ann Heap, two brothers, William Bargy, Devello Bargy, and two sisters, Gaithel Whitmer and Mary Sanford.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY 14779.

In honoring Mr. Bargy’s request, there will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
