Roberta Stone
Roberta Patterson Stone, 94, of Kill Buck, New York passed away at her home Wednesday, August 24, 2016.
Born April 19, 1922 in Salamanca, New York, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mildred Slade Patterson. She was married on April 24, 1948 to Mr. Harold O. Jacobson, who predeceased her on April 29, 1970. On April 13, 1981, she married Mr. William E. Stone Jr., who survives.
She attended nursing school at Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, New York, obtaining her LPN in 1943.
During World War II, she worked at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo as the proverbial Rosie “Roberta” the Riveter. Following the war, she returned to Kill Buck and worked in the offices of Dr. Charles Barranco and Dr. Donald J. Meehan. Following the death of her first husband, she returned to school and graduated from Jamestown Community College in 1973 with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and her RN License. She then worked in the former Salamanca Hospital, the offices of Dr. Guterez and Dr. Widger as a Nurse Practitioner, and retired as the elementary school nurse for the Salamanca Central School District.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bradford, PA, the Order of the Eastern Star Mizpah Chapter #162, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the B&O Railroad Brakeman & Conductors. She also served as the Historian for the Town of Great Valley for 50 years.
Surviving besides her husband are: two sons, Rev. Harold O. (Deborah) Jacobson, Clarion, PA, Donald J. Jacobson, Salamanca, NY; four grandchildren, Karl E. Jacobson, Distant, PA, Kirk J. Jacobson, Clarion, PA, Johanna J. Shaefer, Columbus, OH, Lindsay Jacobson Larrimore, Conway, SC; three great-grandchildren, Savanna M. Shaefer, Lydia Jacobson, Aiden Larrimore; a special nephew, Robert Patterson, Clearwater, FL; sisters-in-law, Beverly Patterson, Kill Buck, NY, Iris Jacobson, Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Otis Patterson in 2015.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 4 – 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Pierotti of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bradford, PA, officiating.
Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
