Rose M. Lawson

Rose M. Lawson, 85, of Great Valley, NY died Monday morning, November 28, 2022 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.

Born October 28, 1937 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Annie Kirby DeLong. She was married to the late John Lawson, who predeceased her in 2015 and had previously been married to the late Frank E. Lyons Sr. who predeceased her.

She had been employed in the housekeeping department at the Salamanca Nursing Home for over 35 years, retiring in 1995.

Rose enjoyed being with her family and attending family gatherings where she marveled at her son’s cooking abilities. She loved Bingo and traveling with her late husband. She was an avid Buffalo Bills and Sabers fan and enjoyed watching baseball, especially the New York Yankees. She also donated to several charities. She attended Our Lady of Peace Parish and was a lifetime social member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

Surviving are: two sons, Terry A. Lyons, Frank E. Lyons Jr., both of Great Valley, NY; a daughter Laurie (William) McMahan, NC; seven granddaughters, Kristy Pezon, Orchard Park, NY, Elizabeth (Franklin Greene) Lyons. Salamanca, NY, Chelsea Lyons, Olean, NY, Tarah (David) Lyons, Olean, NY, Katelynn (Nicholas Sturdevant) Starks, Salamanca, NY, Hannah Lyons, Salamanca, NY, Jennifer Sanders, WV; eighteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Victoriana Greene, four brothers Hugh DeLong, William DeLong, Bobby DeLong, and Jimmy DeLong.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 11am – 1pm, at which time funeral services will be held with Rev. Moses Ikuelogbon officiating. Additional calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 5 – 7pm.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
