Rosemary Shadden

Rosemary Shadden, 74, of North State Street, Salamanca, NY, died Friday November 19, 2021 at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY surrounded by her family after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Born February 25, 1947 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Shirley Stull Leder. She was married May 28, 1977 in Salamanca, NY to Ron Shadden, who survives her.

She attended Salamanca High School and earned her LPN certification at Cattaraugus County BOCES.

Rosemary had been employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the former Salamanca Nursing Home for over twenty years. Upon retirement, she worked for Homecare and Hospice for seven years. She had become a vendor in the Salamanca Antique Mall and the Craft Co-Operative in the Olean Center Mall. She served as the Salamanca Town Clerk for one term and worked with the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections for several years. She also served as a volunteer at the Salamanca Historical Museum.

She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed her family, cooking, the outdoors, and gardening. She also made jewelry art and enjoyed taking care of her pets. She attended many yard and estate sales with her daughters in order to add to her many collections. She will be remembered for helping others in the community who were in need. For many years she organized and sent hundreds of care packages to service members overseas. She participated in the Hike for Hospice event several times, raising money for that organization. For the first time last summer, Rosemary entered several exhibits at the Cattaraugus County Fair where she received numerous blue ribbons.

Surviving are: three daughters, Theresa (Kenneth) Baginski, Randolph, NY, Sally (Max Jr.) Bullers, Olean, NY, Marti (Jon) Haslauer, Little Rock, AK; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Fluent, Little Valley, NY; two brothers, Ronald (Lorna) Leder, Kill Buck, NY, Christopher Leder, Missoula, MT; several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her devoted dogs, Mia, Mikey, Moxie, Trouble and her cat, Snowball.

She was predeceased by an infant sister, Mary Leder.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca,NY on ​Monday, November 22, 2021 from 3 – 7pm.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11am with Pastor Richard Hewitt of the United Methodist Church, Holland, NY, officiating.

Burial will be in Green Cemetery, Great Valley, NY in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, 901 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY 14203.
