Russell Gilman
Mr. Russell Gilman, age 90, of Broad Street, Salamanca, New York died Wednesday morning, May 12, 2010 at The Absolut of Salamanca, Salamanca, New York.
Born on October 29, 1919 in Great Valley, New York he was the son of the late John & Holice Albright Gilman. He was married on January 10, 1942 in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Ellicottville, New York to the former Isabel Lecceardone who survives
Mr. Gilman was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII serving in the infantry in the European Theatre.
He was employed at the former Fancher Furniture Company for over 40 years.
Mr. Gilman was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296, the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535, the Holy Cross Athletic Club, and the former Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1002. He was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting & fishing. He also enjoyed watching football and baseball.
Surviving besides his wife are: 3 sons, Wayne Gilman, Daryl (Gail)Gilman, Randy Gilman, all of Salamanca, New York; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Terrance Gilman & Ronald Gilman.
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 7-9 P.M.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday morning at 11 A.M. with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor of Our Lady of Peace Parish, officiating.
Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.
