Shirley L. Smith

Shirley L. Smith, 85, of Salamanca, NY died Wednesday evening, January 17, 2024 at Olean General Hospital following a short illness.

Born June 26, 1938 in Salamanca, NY she was the daughter of the late William and Emma Johnston Moran. She was married to Robert “Buzz” Smith, who predeceased her in 1974.

She had been employed as a custodial engineer at the former St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic School.

Shirley was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. She enjoyed the outdoors and going for walks. She loved animals, especially her dogs, watching Hallmark movies and sweets. Shirley loved going for car rides in the park with Rhonda and Gary Miller to look for bears, going to Tony’s in the summer with cousins Ed and Beverly to eat french fries and her favorite hot fudge sundaes, lunch and shopping dates with her cousins Beverly and Joyce, and visits with her adopted daughters, Melissa, Amanda, Pam, and Laura.

Surviving are: a daughter, Penny Smith, Salamanca, NY; a brother, James (Dolly) Moran, Tucson, AZ; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 11am – 1pm, at which time funeral services will be held.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
