Sophie Dry
Sophie Dry, age 86, formerly of Washington Street, Salamanca, New York died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at The Absolute of Salamanca, Salamanca, NY surrounded by her family.
Born on May 26, 1923 in Ludlow, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Paul and Justina Trysczyla Herbach. She was married on August 3, 1946 in Holy Cross Church to Robert Dry who predeceased her on June 15, 2005.
Mrs. Dry was employed at the former Sheble & Wood Woolen Mills, and St. Patrick’s Catholic School Cafeteria.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and the Holy Cross Athletic Club. She volunteered at voting centers during elections. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a great cook known for her pierogis and homemade rolls. In 1983 she traveled to Russia by herself to meet her family.
Surviving are: 1 son, Michael (Verna) Dry, Salamanca, New York; 5 daughters, Christine (John) Bartoszek, Salamanca, New York, Sandy Cole, Salamanca, New York, Janice Earley, Salamanca, New York, Kathleen (Mike) Earley, Salamanca, New York, Marcia (David) O’Donnell, Salamanca, New York; 14 grandchildren, Jason (Tonya) Dry, Joshua Dry, Jay Bartoszek, Chad Bartoszek, Chelsea Cole, Derek Earley, Ashley Earley, Bradley Earley, Daniel Earley, Amy Hill, Dana Hill, Megan O’Donnell, all of Salamanca, New York, Jeremy (Judy) Edwards, Alabama, Holly Edwards, Salamanca, New York; 6 great grandchildren, Kalib Pierce, Konner Pierce, Camryn Earley, Cole Urbanski, Emma Edwards, Eli Edwards; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Mary Damon, Helen Herbach, 2 brothers, Alex Herbach, Michael Herbach.
Friends may call on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 5-8 P.M. at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.
A prayer service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Peace Parish at 11:00 AM
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
