Born September 13, 1950 in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late William Jr. and Ethel Wyatt Fries.
She was a graduate of John Marshall High School, Class of 1968 and earned her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration/Sales and Marketing from Central City Business Institute in 1969.
Sue was a pillar of her community, working with the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections for over 35 years, serving as the Republican Election Commissioner for over 20 years until her retirement in 2017. Her dedication to ensuring fair and transparent elections was exemplary and she approached her role with integrity and a steadfast commitment to public service. Previously, she had been employed with the Salamanca Press for 15 years. She was a member of the New York State Election Commissioners’ Association, serving as both Vice Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer, and had served on the local School Board.
Sue was known for her adventurous spirit and passion for travel. Exploring new places and experiencing different cultures brought her immense joy and enriched her life in countless ways. One of her favorite destinations was New York City, where she delighted in attending plays and immersing herself in the vibrant arts scene.
Sue’s greatest joy, however, was found in the love she shared with her family. She adored her nieces dearly, taking pride in their accomplishments and nurturing them with unwavering affection. Her face would light up with a special warmth whenever she spoke of her “grandson” (nephew), whom she loved beyond measure and cherished every moment spent together. She spent years dedicating time to the youth sports group the Blue Devils.
Her laughter was infectious and her presence brightened any gathering she attended. She had a remarkable ability to connect with others, forging friendships that spanned decades and touched countless lives all over the world. Sue will be deeply missed by her loving family as well as her wide circle of friends who were blessed to have known her.
