Susan Hubbard
Mrs. Susan Hubbard, 94, formerly of Bay State Road, Red House died Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at her daughter, Sheila Foreman’s home in Alfred, NY, where she resided for the last several years.
Born July 10, 1923 in Ludlow, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Terpak Chopan, who were immigrants from Czechoslovakia. She learned English when she attended school and was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1943.
She was married on May 7, 1945 in Salamanca, NY to the late Marvin Hubbard, who predeceased her in 1992. As a teenager, she worked to support herself and her family. She was employed at the former Weston's Bakery. She had also worked at Dach’s Red House Inn at the Allegany State Park.
She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, gardening, cooking, and was an avid bowler. She and her late husband enjoyed dancing and won several local dance competitions. She was a member of the former St. Patrick's Church, where she taught religious education, and was a member of the Home Bureau.
Surviving are: a daughter, Sheila Foreman, Alfred, NY; a son, Michael Hubbard, Red House, NY; a sister, Helen Taylor, McKees Rock, PA; three granddaughters, Allyson (Rob) Morris, CA, Erin (Jared) Kurtz, OR, Sheila (Kevin) Greaser, WI; three grandsons, Tyler (Chrissy) Hubbard, CA, Thomas (Shari) Foreman, MN, Derek (Jennie) Foreman, Hornell, NY; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Marvin Hubbard, a grandson, Matthew Hubbard, four sisters, Betty Hahn, Anna Van, Margaret Mendell, and Mary Chopan, four brothers, including her infant twin brother Andrew Chopan, John Chopan, Paul Chopan, and Steve Chopan,
Friends may call at the O'Rourke and O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 3 – 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Peter Napierkowski, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Steamburg Cemetery, Steamburg, NY.
