Ted Hartman

Ted F. Hartman, 86, of Salamanca, NY died Monday, May 28, 2018 peacefully at home.

Born April 2, 1932 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late L.B. and Effie Foster Hartman. He was married on January 25, 1974 to the former Margaret McClarnon, who survives.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as an instructor in Fort Monmouth during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Hartman owned and operated LB Hartman Chevrolet. In January 1972, he started Bush-Hartman Injection Molding and later owned RF Kilns from 1992-1999.

He was a member of the Lions Club, where he served as past President in 1962, the Masonic Lodge #239 F&AM, the Shriner’s Club, and had served on the BPU Board. “Terrible Ted” held the Class Record for the National Hotrod Association, 98.9 mph in September 1963 and 101.69 mph in May 1964, in the car known as the “Bad Banana”. He was an Instrument Rated Licensed Pilot and owned a Cessna 206 plane named ‘Baby Doll’. His latest toy was a 1976 GMC Eleganza Motor Home.

Surviving besides his wife are: four children, Warren Hartman, Tampa, FL, Tina Dillon, Springville, NY, Mark Hartman, SC, Ian Dillon, Seattle, WA.

He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Elsbeth Button.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 99 Wildwood Avenue, Salamanca with Rev. Michael Lonto officiating.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post 535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church or HomeCare & Hospice, 211 Erie Street, Little Valley, NY 14755.
