Theron Holmes
Mr. Theron Burr “Terry” “Shakie” Holmes, 69, of Salamanca, NY died unexpectedly Friday, April 21, 2017 at his home.
Born September 25, 1947 in Franklinville, NY, he was the son of the late James and Frances Tucker Holmes. He was married on September 18, 1983 to the former Linda Baker, who survives.
Mr. Holmes was a veteran of the United States Army from 1969 – 2005. He had served in Vietnam and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal with 1 Oak Cluster, Army Accommodation Medal, three Good Conduct Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Campaign Stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ M Device, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral three, National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Service Ribbons, Multinational Force and Observers Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 60 Device.
He had been employed in environmental services at the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino. He had previously worked at Signore’s in Ellicottville, NY.
He was a former member of the Ellicottville American Legion Post 659, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver Terry Labonte, and collecting football cards.
Surviving besides his wife are: two daughters, Theresa Holmes, Salamanca, NY, Barbara Bargy, Olean, NY; a son, James (Cathy) Holmes II, Manhattan, KS; four grandchildren, John Holmes-Pierce, Salamanca, NY, Theron “TJ” Holmes, Manhattan, KS, Christopher Bargy, Courtney Bargy, both of Olean, NY; a brother Franklyn Holmes, Colorado Springs, CO, three brothers in law, John (Wilma) Baker, Gadsden, AL, Charles (Leo) Baker, Florida, Randall Baker, Little Valley, New York; special friends, Charlie (Maude) Mitchell, Olean, NY.
Mr. Holmes was predeceased by five sisters, Thaila Holmes, Ruth Wallace, Florence Howard, Bertha Gravanda, Rosemary Tilton, two brothers, James Holmes, and Charles Holmes
Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc, Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca on Thursday for a memorial visitation from 3:00 -4:00 PM when a memorial service will be held with Richard Hewitt, pastor of the Footpath Ministries officiating.
Full Military honors will be performed by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign War John Ahrens Post # 5296
