Thomas P. Scott
Mr. Thomas P. Scott, 73, of Salamanca, NY died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Olean General Hospital following a long illness.
Born March 17, 1947 in Salamanca, NY, he was the son of the late Stanley and Joanne Wallace Scott. He was married on July 18, 1970 in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church to the former Debora Dotson, who survives.
Tom was a graduate of Salamanca High School, Class of 1966 and earned his Bachelors Degree from Culver Stockton College, Canton, MI where he also played football.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed at the Patrick Air Force Base near Melbourne, Florida from 1970 – 1974.
He had been employed as a Transfer Coordinator with Olean General Hospital for almost 38 years, retiring in 2010.
Tom was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Salamanca. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and attending their sporting and scholastic events. He loved caring for his yard, gardening, especially his rose bushes. He enjoyed history, fifties and sixties music, as well as dancing. He was involved with the Salamanca Sports Boosters and coached travel league soccer, was a swing football coach for the Salamanca High School Warriors, and assisted his two daughters in coaching Falconer Women’s Soccer and Cattaraugus Little Valley Track and Field. He will be remembered for his sense of humor.
Surviving besides his wife are: two daughters, Katharine (Joel) Merrill, East Otto, NY, Kersten (Paul) Furlong, Salamanca, NY; two sons, Kristopher Scott, Kameron (Alicia Sanford) Scott, both of Salamanca, NY; 13 grandchildren, Keegan Hardy, Kasen Hardy, Karrah Furlong, Kyla Scott, Kaden Scott, Cindy Scott, Parker Scott, all of Salamanca, NY, Grady Merrill, Jack Merrill, Owen Merrill, Elliott Merrill, all of East Otto, NY; two step grandchildren, Katie and Eric Furlong, both of Allegany, NY; a sister, Bonnie Vesneski, Salamanca, NY; a brother, Robert Scott, Whitehall, MI; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Kyle Scott, on September 7, 2003.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation.
Private funeral services will be held at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Thursday, December 10, 2020.
A Celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family and will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Kyle Stephen Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of Salamanca Central School System, 50 Iroquois Drive, Salamanca, NY 14779.
