Verna M. Geiger
Verna M. Geiger, 84, of Fredonia, NY, formerly of Salamanca, NY, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, Sunday morning, February 25, 2024 at home.
Born October 8, 1939 in New London, CT, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Edith Northrop MacDonald. She was married April 2, 1960 in Old Lyme, CT to Donald R. Geiger, who predeceased her in 2016.
She was a graduate of Old Lyme High School, Class of 1957 and earned her Associates Degree from SUNY Empire State College.
Mrs. Geiger had been employed with O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. as the office manager for over 10 years, retiring in 1993. Previously, she had been in the bank industry for over 20 years, owned and operated the Yankee Peddler Craft Shop, Salamanca, NY, and had also worked at Allegany State Park.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, watching little league sports, crafting, and will be remembered for her heartfelt gifts. She liked jigsaw and crossword puzzles and enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She was a huge New York Mets and Buffalo Bills fan.
Surviving are: three daughters, Diane (Mark Pierleoni) Geiger, Rochester, NY, Lisa (James Schaff) Geiger, Fredonia, NY, Linda Finn, Fredonia, NY; five granddaughters, Danielle (Jon Leino) Stasko, Clearmont, FL, Kelli (Rob Clemons) Terhune, Phoenix, AZ, Jamie (Christopher) Condello, Rochester, NY, Tucker and Taylor Geiger, both of Plattsburg, NY; two grandsons, Christopher Terhune, Conewango Valley, NY, Ryan Finn, Fredonia, NY; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Earleen (Ronald) Soccoli, South Lyme, CT, Gail Taylor, Cary, NC, Sandra (Mark) MaGough, Wilmington, NC; a brother-in-law Raymond (Dolores) Geiger, Salamanca, NY; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Donald R. Geiger Jr., and two sisters, Sherry Ashworth and Janice Gafner, and a son-in-law, Andrew Finn.
There will be no visitation.
A Celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family and will be announced.
Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care, 3780 Eagle Street, Fredonia, NY 14063 and Scleroderma Foundation, at www.scleroderma.org.
