William Hughes

William Hughes, 90, of Cattaraugus, NY died Tuesday evening, October 1, 2024 at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Springville, NY following a long illness.

Born September 6, 1934 in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Margaret Mutschler Hughes. He was married July 1, 1967 in Buffalo to the former Theresa Krajenski, who survives.

He attended South Park High School in Buffalo and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1955-57 stationed in Germany.

William had been employed as a forklift operator with the former JH Williams Tool & Die, North Tonawanda, NY and had previously been employed at the former Buffalo China.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and the outdoors, especially fishing. He loved watching college football and western and war movies, and was a John Wayne fan. He also followed the Buffalo Bills.

Surviving besides his wife are: a daughter, Tracy (Michael) Rolfe, Cattaraugus, NY; two sons, Patrick (Sue Harrison) Hughes, Salamanca, NY, John Hughes, Cattaraugus, NY; three granddaughters, Colleen (Ethan) Green, Cattaraugus, NY, Brittany (Joe Vullo) Rolfe, Salamanca, NY, Tiffany (Nick Bausum) Rolfe, Cattaraugus, NY; two grandsons, Brandon Hughes, Aiden Hughes, both of Cattaraugus, NY; six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Shawn Hughes, on September 3rd, his sister, Maureen Hughes, and his brother Ronald (Teresa) Hughes.

Friends may call at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, NY on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 7 – 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s RC Church, 36 Washington Street, Cattaraugus, NY on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Propiglia.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the Little Valley American Legion Post 531 at church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made for William’s funeral expenses in care of Tracy Rolfe, 8 Lincoln Street, Cattaraugus, NY 14719.
