William Quigley

Mr. William Quigley, age 86, died Tuesday morning, August 2, 2011 at the home of his son, Rodney Wagoner, 56 Washington Street, Salamanca, New York following a long illness.

Born on February 23, 1925 in Salamanca, New York, he was the son of the late Andrew and Pauline Elsen Quigley. He was married on September 4, 1975, to the former Beverly Clark, who predeceased him on January 18, 2009.

Mr. Quigley was a veteran of the US Army serving with the 224th Medical Company in the 17 Airborne Division in the European Theatre, Ardennes, Central Europe, and Rhineland during WWII. Later he served as a Train Guard during the Occupation of Germany. He was awarded the American Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the Occupation of Germany Medal.

He was employed on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and also as a self employed painter.

Mr. Quigley was a member of the former St. Patrick's Church and a former member of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535

Surviving are: a son, Rodney (Elinor Benson) Wagoner, Salamanca, NY; two daughters, Sheila Wagoner, Rochester, NY, Valerie Wagoner Talbot, Palm Bay, FL; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Margaret (Matthew) Colomaio, Hornell, NY, Frances Crouch, Allegany, NY; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Robert Quigley, Michael Quigley, Patrick Quigley, Jack Quigley, and Lawrence Quigley; and one sister, Ann Stowell.

Friends may call at the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York, on Friday from 4 – 7 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of Peace Parish with Rev. Patrick Melfi, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.

Full military honors will be conducted by members of the American Legion Hughes-Skiba Post #535 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post #5296.
