Wilma Cooney

Mrs. Wilma Cooney, age 86, of Salamanca, New York died on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family following a long illness.

Born on March 14, 1930 in Salamanca, NY she was the daughter of the late Russell and Hannah Spear Wyatt. She was married on October 9, 1947 in Salamanca, New York to Rev. Arthur Cooney, who predeceased her on October 8, 2014.

Mrs. Cooney was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She was devoted to her family, enjoyed gardening and being a homemaker.

Surviving are: five daughters, Linda (Leonard) DeBoy, Randolph, NY, Gail (Fred) Thompson, Little Valley, NY, Kathryn (Gary) Thrush, Salamanca, NY, Janet Cooney, Charlotte, NC, Donna (Robert) Reynolds, Salamanca, NY; two sons, Arthur (Julie) Cooney, Elkdale, NY, David Cooney, Allegany, NY; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Mindy Cooney, a grandson, Jamie Thrush,3 brothers Robert Wyatt, Thomas Wyatt, Charles Wyatt, and 2 sisters, Ethel Fries, Joyce “Bluie” McMahon.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Michael Lonto, pastor, officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O'Rourke & O'Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River Street, Salamanca, New York.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Salamanca, New York.
